The replacement for my camera has arrived! Woo! I can now take higher-quality photos :-) I'm so looking forward to getting to know it. The settings are different to the previous model, but it has a bigger optical zoom. I haven't properly tested how good it is at close-up photography, but that will come.
Experimenting!
Jun. 10th, 2011 06:32 pmI have my new camera!! It's a Canon 300d, DSLR. I'm playing around with it at the moment and trying ot get used to how it works. I've always had either an SLR film camera or a point-and-shot digital, so this mixing of the two worlds is bizarre and a bit of a learning curve.
At any rate, here are some of the photos I'm particularly proud of :-)

So yeah, I'm getting somewhere! I'm hoping to take it out on a field trip at some point this weekend and get some photos outdoors :-)

Another challenge to come
May. 12th, 2011 01:39 pm I'm getting a DSLR soon. It'll come with a single, 18mm-55mm lens and I hope to get a good flash for it. It's second-hand, and the current owner and I have agreed on a price. Now it's just a matter of me saving for it and her choosing what to upgrade to.
I've decided that, when I get it, I should do a 52-week project like the recipe challenge. I want to do this because I want to learn to be a better photographer.
So, what I'm looking for here is suggestions on techniques and aspects and subjects to be my focus (so to speak) for each week (at least initially), and at the end of each week I'll put up the photo I'm happiest with. Of course, I won't be limited to that style of photography for that week, but it'll give me something specific to work on.
So far, I'd like to have a week of each of these:
- Black and White photography
- Macro photography
- Motion-blur photography
- Animals
- Buildings
- Large plants
- Small plants
- Landscape
- High-speed photography
- Portraits
I'm planning to request photographic equipment for Christmas and/or my birthday, so there may be an increase in what I'm able to do by January. So feel free to request other things which may require more specialised equipment :-)
