Mr Giles vs Ripper
Dec. 5th, 2008 08:27 amI've been watching Buffy again, and it got me thinking:
Rupert "Ripper" Giles was not your nice young man. He was a rebel, he was trouble. He would have been in his fair share of street fights. He knows how to fight.
We see a bit of that persona when he encounters Ethan. He is SCARY.
And yet, in Buffy's training, in all the major fights, he is still Mr Giles. Stuffy, weak, little more than a punching bag and usually unconscious.
All the others keep the secret of slaying from the world. He keeps his secret from everyone, all the time. For a very long time.
I hesitate to call him a liar, but it is interesting.
